Dual-Species Biofilms: Biomass, Viable Cell Ratio/Cross-Species Interactions, Conjugative Transfer

چکیده
Biofilms as a form of adaptation are beneficial for bacterial survival and may be hot spots horizontal gene transfer, including conjugation. The aim this research was to characterize the biofilm biomass, viable cell ratios conjugative transfer pOX38 plasmid, an F-plasmid derivative, from Escherichia coli N4i strain (donor) into uropathogenic E. DL82 (recipient) within dual-species biofilms with one following opportunistic pathogenic bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Dual-species K. pneumoniae P. aeruginosa but not were more massive possessed exopolysaccharide matrix compared single-species donor recipient cells. Correlation between biomass rs = 0.888 in biofilms. In proportion highest, while less abundant. frequencies plasmid reduced. A decrease frequency also observed when cell-free supernatants (CFSs) added conjugation mixture. Further, activity autoinducer AI-2 CFSs mixture reduced bacteria Hence, intercellular interspecies interactions depend on partners involved.

Microbial interactions and differential protein expression in Staphylococcus aureus –Candida albicans dual-species biofilms
The fungal species Candida albicans and the bacterial species Staphylococcus aureus are responsible for a majority of hospital-acquired infections and often coinfect critically ill patients as complicating polymicrobial biofilms. To investigate biofilm structure during polymicrobial growth, dual-species biofilms were imaged with confocal scanning laser microscopy. Analyses revealed a unique bio...
متن کاملCharacteristics of dual species Candida biofilms on denture acrylic surfaces.
UNLABELLED Biofilms contribute to the pathogenesis of oral candidiasis, some 15% of which may be due to dual Candida species. Despite extensive studies on monospecies biofilms (MSB) on denture acrylic surfaces, few have investigated the characteristics of dual species Candida biofilms (DSB). OBJECTIVES To examine interactions of DSB of Candida albicans and Candida krusei on denture acrylic su...
متن کاملCandida Species Biofilms’ Antifungal Resistance
Candida infections (candidiasis) are the most prevalent opportunistic fungal infection on humans and, as such, a major public health problem. In recent decades, candidiasis has been associated to Candida species other than Candida albicans. Moreover, biofilms have been considered the most prevalent growth form of Candida cells and a strong causative agent of the intensification of antifungal re...
متن کاملBV and non-BV associated Gardnerella vaginalis establish similar synergistic interactions with other BV-associated microorganisms in dual-species biofilms.
Dual-species biofilm formation between Gardnerella vaginalis strains isolated from women with or without bacterial vaginosis (BV) and other 24 BV-associated microorganisms support that the key difference in virulence potential between BV-negative and BV-positive G. vaginalis strains seems not to be related with biofilm maturation.
